But first, you may wonder what feng shui is and how to set up your bedroom with it.

What Is Feng Shui?

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese practice of creating an environment that promotes balance and harmony. The practice uses energy forces to help you harmonize with your surrounding environment. You can use feng shui for the entire home.

You are working with the five elements of nature; earth, fire, wood, metal and water. In English, the term “Feng Shui” translates to “wind-water,” which are two aspects of nature. When you think about it, feng shui is perfect for creating a peaceful environment in your bedroom.

How To Create Feng Shui In Your Bedroom

It is important to create the proper feng shui in your bedroom because it can improve several aspects of your life, such as romance, your health and your overall mood.

Of course, there are feng shui bedroom rules to keep in mind, as this prevents you from creating negative energy in your bedroom.

1- Solid Headboard:

Your bed should have a wooden or upholstered headboard. It is a solid but gentle way to create positive energy.

The headboard adds the backing, support and protection you need as your body works to repair your energy.

If your bed does not have a headboard, use a few wood panels to create your own headboard. All you have to do is attach them to the wall behind your bed.

2- Supportive Mattress:

You cannot create a peaceful environment if you are sleeping on an uncomfortable mattress.

Just as your headboard needs to be supportive, you need a supportive mattress as well. A comfortable mattress is essential to a restful sleep.

It is best to avoid a used mattress because it may have negative energy from its previous owner, which is not good for feng shui.

3- Good Height:

When applying feng shui to your bed, you want to ensure it is a good height.

You can use risers to add height to your bed if it is too low to the ground.

Now, it is important to keep in mind that beds with underneath storage are not good for feng shui. It can block the positive energy from circulating under and around your bed as you are sleeping.

4- Bed Placement and Direction:

It is important to keep feng shui bed direction and placement in mind when applying feng shui to your bedroom.

You want to position the bed as far away from the door as possible. In addition, it should be diagonal rather than directly in line with the door, nor should it be in line with any other doors in the bedroom.

This way, you are not startled by anything outside your bedroom, but you feel in control because you still have a view of the door.

5- Avoid Distractions:

Separate your home office from your bedroom. This way, you can be more productive and concentrate on the task with no disturbances.

When positioning your bed for feng shui, you also want to keep it away from the distractions, such as your TV and other electronic devices.

If this is not an option, you can always invest in a TV cabinet with doors or a Chinese screen to keep these items out of sight and out of mind.

You also want to put your mobile devices away for the night. This way, you can focus on resting instead of your work or electronics.

6- Remember Your Energy:

While it may seem to contradict other feng shui bedroom rules, such as not placing your bed by your desk, you want to keep your Kua number in mind when finding a spot for your bed. For example, if you figure out your Kua number is eight, then you want to place your bed in the western area of the bedroom.

Once you determine the right areas for your feng shui bed placement, you want to narrow it down to the best spot for your energy.

Layout #1

Best feng shui bedroom layout example floor plan

Placing the bed in a commanding position is the number one feng shui bedroom layout.

It is diagonal from the door with a solid wall behind the headboard. You are going to create grounding energy with a nightstand on either side and an area rug under the bed.

To keep the energy in your bedroom balanced, place a large piece of furniture, such as an armoire or a dresser, against the wall closest to the foot of the bed.

Layout #2

Right feng shui bedroom plan.

For the second-best feng shui bedroom layout, the door is going to be to the side of the bed, but you are going to position the bed as far away from the door as possible.

There are still similarities to the first layout, as it features grounding energy on both sides and under the bed, as well as a large piece of furniture balancing the energy at the wall near the foot of the bed.

With the nightstands and a large piece of furniture, you should be able to visualize a triangle.

Layout #3

Now, the third feng shui bedroom layout features the bed on a nearby wall or the same wall as the door, with as much space between the door and bed as possible.

You also want to create a balance of grounding energy with a nightstand on each side of the bed, as well as a rug under the bed.

There needs to be enough space to place the second nightstand between the bed and door, but you can opt for a smaller nightstand if need be.

Worst Feng Shui Bedroom Layout

Use the following examples to avoid the worst feng shui bedroom layouts.

Layout #1

Worst bedroom layout according to feng shui rules.

The worst feng shui bedroom layout features the bed positioned under the window.

It may look nice or seem like the best way to get some fresh air, but you need to keep the energy in mind when applying feng shui to your space. There are many who believe it could cause sad or weak energy.

It is best to find another position for your bed, or use a tall headboard and window coverings to at least block out the window at night.

Layout #2

Now, positioning the bed in line with the door is the second-worst feng shui bedroom layout.

You are allowing the energy from outside your bedroom to leak in and the energy of your bed to leak out. Once again, you want to position your bed as far away from the door as possible.

If it is not possible to move your bed, place a piece of furniture that promotes good energy between the bed and the door. One example is an upholstered chair with a comfortable throw blanket or pillow.

Layout #3

Worst feng shui bedroom plan.

Finally, the third-worst layout is positioning your bed between the door and window.

It is like a combination of the other two worst feng shui layouts. It places your bed in the line of energy that can flow in and disturb your rest area.

Placing your bed in this position also causes the grounding energy to become weak and exposed.

You want to place your bed in a strong and protected spot, as this keeps your energy safe and creates a balanced and harmonized environment.
